Buddy Borden's No-Hitter

On May 13, 2015 I attended a 10:30am game between the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Rays) and Clearwater Threshers (Phillies) of the Florida State League at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Florida.
Buddy Borden, the starting pitcher for the Stone Crabs, who was acquired in the off-season from the Pittsburgh Pirates, ended up tossing a no-hitter that day.
I didn't have a card of Buddy at the time, but that night I immediately ordered one.
I had to wait nearly a month before the Stone Crabs came back to my area. A series with the Dunedin Blue Jays kicked off this week and I attended todays game, an 11am start time.
For my sake, I was happy to see Buddy was still with the team. He had a 6-2 record and was just announced as a Florida State League All-Star this week.
Coincidentally, another morning start for him that I got to witness.
No no-hitter for him today, but he did get the win, making him 7-2 on the season.
After the game I asked him for an autograph. He came over and I handed him my card.
I told him that I never ask for more than one autograph, but I was going to make an exception with him. He said that he didn't mind and would sign as many as I want. I then pulled out the ticket stub pictured above and asked him if he knew the significance of this ticket. He smiled and I told him I was at that game. He happily signed it for me.
I'm not much of a memorabilia collector. All I care about is getting cards signed in person on my own, but having this ticket stub signed with the inscription is pretty special to me.

  1. That's awesome! I hope to see a no-hitter someday. That ticket stub is a great keepsake.

    1. A triple play also happened in that same game, but I wasn't in my seat at that time and completely missed it. I debated whether or not to get his teammate who started the triple play to sign the ticket as well, but decided against it.
